Linked to the subject "Strenthening Partner Europe" Dorothée Falkenberg is our this year´s fellow for five months.
In her fellowship, Falkenberg researches the trade-security nexus in the European Economic Security Strategy. In a geoeconomic context where economic instruments are increasingly used to pursue security interests, the EU faces the challenge of aligning its already supranational trade policy with security policy, which remains the responsibility of the member states. Through interviews with political actors from both policy fields, she develops concrete policy recommendations for the successful implementation of relevant instruments and for improved coordination among institutions and member states.
Her study is scheduled to by the end of the year 2025 as part of the BKHS Perspectives series and will be presented at an exclusive launch event.
Dorothée Falkenberg specialises in EU trade and foreign policy. At the Brussels office of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), she is responsible for knowledge transfer between EU institutions, NATO, and Berlin.
