  • Dr. Strasheim was born in 1986 and studied political science, peace and conflict research and Finno-Ugrian studies at the universities of Hamburg, Växjö and Uppsala; she received her doctorate in political science (summa cum laude) from the University of Heidelberg in 2016. She completed internships at the Goethe Institut in Helsinki, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Pristina and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Hanoi. From 2012-17, Dr. Strasheim was a research fellow at the GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies and from 2013 onwards she held regular teaching positions at the universities of Hamburg, Kiel and Heidelberg. In 2013, she was a guest researcher at the Peace Research Institute Oslo. She also undertook field research in Kathmandu in 2015 and 2017. Dr. Strasheim worked for the GIZ as a consultant in 2016, before being employed as a researcher at the Bundeskanzler-Helmut-Schmidt-Stiftung (BKHS) from 2017-19. She was appointed Deputy Managing Director and Programme Director for European and International Politics at the BKHS in 2020.
