Dr. Woyke was born in 1972 and studied history, German and education at the University of Hamburg. He received his PhD in 2004 and undertook postdoctoral studies from 2005-2007 at the Research Centre for Contemporary History (FZH) in Hamburg. From 2007–2012, he was a researcher at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation’s Historical Research Centre/Archive of Social Democracy, before becoming the head of its “Public History” section from 2012-2019. From 2009-2016, Dr. Woyke was the editor of the history journal “Archiv für Sozialgeschichte” and he held regular teaching positions at the universities of Hamburg, Cologne and Bonn from 2006-2019. Dr. Woyke has been Chairman of the Management Board and Managing Director of the Bundeskanzler-Helmut Schmidt-Stiftung since 2019.
