The participation of young people in peacebuilding

Yara Itani was a BKHS Fellow on the “Gen P(eacebuilder)” project


Yara Itani was our fellow on the “Gen P(eacebuilder)” project for three months from 1 October 2025.
She is a social worker from Lebanon with experience in the fields of gender, protection and community engagement. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a diploma in “Humanitarian Crises” at Saint Joseph University in Beirut.

She is a Stakeholder Engagement Officer at the MENA Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security, a network of 30 youth-focused organisations and 100 young peacebuilders from the Middle East and North Africa. In this role, she develops partnership strategies, promotes cross-sectoral dialogue and amplifies the voices and life experiences of young people affected by conflict to ensure their inclusion in regional decision-making processes.

At the Bundeskanzler-Helmut-Schmidt-Stiftung , Yara Itani is a CrossCultureProgramme Fellow within our Peace and Security in Europe and Globally programme line, where she contributes to the Gen P(eacebuilder) project, which focuses on youth participation in peacebuilding and advances the UN Youth, Peace and Security Agenda.
