The re-election of Donald Trump, the increase in wars worldwide, climate change, but also inflation and the housing shortage - we are experiencing a time of polycrisis. Young people are particularly affected - with consequences for their mental health as well as their attitude towards democracy. This is exactly where we come in with the Democracy Consultation Hour: We take the concerns and perspectives of young people as our starting point, discuss the connection between crisis and democracy and together find starting points for dealing with crises and democratic participation.

When Helmut Schmidt became Federal Chancellor in 1974, there was no internet, mobile phones or private television. Nevertheless, the media played a central role in politics and society even then. In this workshop, we use Schmidt's life story as an example to examine the developments in media history in the 20th century - from radio to TikTok.

Fact or fake? In the "Mobile Archive Lab", we show how archives can help to find out. Participants can rummage through Helmut Schmidt's documents themselves, sift through files and find out what really happened. Our guests become researchers in the archive lab – and get to the bottom of history!
