Democracies around the world are facing enormous threats. A growing number of wars, escalating geopolitical rivalries, the increasingly acute climate crisis, social and economic inequalities and rapid technological development are increasingly jeopardising democratic cohesion. A positive democratic vision for overcoming these challenges is therefore becoming increasingly important.
With this in mind, the motto of BKHS Magazine #4 is "For a Just Democracy!". Together with our authors, we identify success factors for a resilient, just democracy. In various formats such as essays, statements, images and interviews, researchers, activists, artists and many more present their concrete ideas on how we can strengthen, maintain and, where necessary, rebuild democracies. For example, they call for a renewal of our commitment to open, inclusive dialogue, argue for more investment in local politics and communities, call for a new understanding of the state's role in the economy and appeal for a swift response to the first warning signs of increasing authoritarianism.
