Goodbye, Partner? The History and Future of Transatlantic Relations

Donald Trump’s policies and the cult of personality surrounding him are overshadowing the celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence, whilst transatlantic relations are undergoing a fundamental shift. However, in the face of growing political tensions, an eroding values base and global changes, the question arises as to how resilient the partnership between Europe and the US still is – politically, socially and strategically? Can and must the European Union take on a more active role in an increasingly multipolar world, and what does this mean for transatlantic relations?
