Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) Agenda
In 2015, the UN Security Council established the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) Agenda through Resolution 2250, recognizing the important and positive role of young people in conflict prevention and the promotion of sustainable peace. Despite this significant milestone, and although young people around the world are driving change, their expertise on peace and security continues to be overlooked too often.
With this YPS platform, the BKHS aims to continue the dialogue on youth in the context of peace and security together with young people. Our goal is to bring young people’s expertise on peace and security more prominently into focus. The platform showcases contributions from young peacebuilders around the world who are advancing the YPS agenda in diverse contexts.
The platform seeks to inform and inspire by highlighting a broad range of topics related to Youth, Peace and Security from the perspectives of young leaders from different regions of the world. These topics range from the relationship between climate change and YPS, to youth-led protests, to questions of youth ownership—or the lack thereof—of the YPS agenda.
The contributions offer valuable insights for both those who have never heard of the agenda and those who have been working in the field for years; for young and older audiences alike; and for policymakers, public officials, and practitioners.
We also aim to encourage reflection: What does it actually mean to implement YPS at the local level, and why is advancing the agenda relevant to you—here and now?
